Why do I find this as a much nicer proposition than the significantly larger 992?

Because of nostalgia ?

Because the 993 was a more entertaining and rewarding drive than the 992. The 992 is too accomplished that any reward from driving is almost nonexistent.

finally some pics pm my newly acquired 993. since I received it I have been able to drive approx 8000 kms through Europe. its a magnificent highway cruiser. and with the X51 has a nice throaty sound.

993s are the most refined of the original 911 chassis. The small size is perfect too, and the manual is a true driver's car manual, none of these modern fake manual B.S.

whoopsy, it indeed is. it drives great. and especially as a 4 wheel drive its a great cruising all weather car.

This design was an aesthetic revelation when it first came out, even more than the significant update of the 964 vis a vis the G series..

The 4S was a more bespoke model with turbo look, lower suspension etc. Better AWD than on the 964 but far away from modern standards, as expected. Some fans prefer the 2WD 993 Carrera S instead.
